The government is taking effective steps for the welfare of miners and all possible education and healthcare facilities have provided to the miners and their families during the last two years. These facilities include free of cost treatment, administration of Hepatitis-B vaccine, scholarships for miners' children, besides establishment of middle school, free uniform, textbooks and other stationery.

This was informed in a report presented by Sindh Mines Labour Welfare Organisation to Provincial Minister for Labour, Transport and Industries Mohammad Adil Siddiqui, says a press release issued here on Sunday.

The report stated that a 10-bed hospital was established in Lakhra, District Dadu with the co-operation of Sindh Workers Welfare Board, while medical facilities were also upgraded at the dispensaries in Manghopir-Karachi and district Thatta.

Some 12,307 and 18,868 patients benefited from these medical facilities during the years 2003 and 2004 respectively, the report said.

It was stated that miners and their families were administered Hepatitis-B vaccine for the first time in the year 2003-04, on the directive of Sindh Minister for Labour and Transport, and this facility continues to be offered.

The report stated that all possible measures are being taken for provision of basic education facilities to the children of miners.

It was stated that significant increase in enrolment of school children has been recorded during the last two years as a result of efforts of the government.

It was informed that construction of a middle school building is underway in District Dadu with the assistance of Workers Welfare Board.
